deBridge token unlock hits 10% of supply as CRO leads headlines

Cronos leads this week's token unlock headlines with $71 million scheduled for October 17, but a quieter token unlock that same day carries ten times the relative weight. deBridge's token unlock releases 618 million DBR, worth about $12 million at current prices, equal to 10.4 percent of circulating supply and roughly ten trading days of volume worldwide.

The Cronos token unlock draws more coverage because the dollar figure is higher, but the actual supply addition is 2.33 percent of unlocked tokens. That distinction matters. A large absolute number diluted into deep liquidity has less price impact than a smaller token unlock hitting thin order books.

deBridge releases 618 million DBR on October 17

The unlock releases at 11:37:12 UTC on October 17 and flows to Community & Launch allocations. At $0.0197 per token, the tranche is worth $11.9 million. Circulating supply sits at 5.93 billion DBR out of a 10 billion total, so the new tokens add 10.4 percent.

Daily DBR trading volume averaged $779,000 over the last 24 hours, according to CoinGecko data. The unlock equals 15 days of that turnover. Even if volume doubles on the day, the release still represents a week's worth of normal demand trying to absorb in a single event.

Core Contributors and Strategic Partners receive roughly 40 percent of the tranche. Those insider allocations historically face the strongest selling pressure, because recipients have immediate liquidity needs or rebalancing targets. The remainder goes to Community and Public Investor wallets, which move more slowly but still add to the available float.

Cronos releases 1.17 billion CRO, 2.33 percent of unlocked supply

Cronos unlocks 1.17 billion CRO tokens on the same date, all directed to the Cronos Strategic Reserve. At recent prices, the tranche is worth $70.85 million, making it the week's largest unlock by dollar value.

The percentage figure reported across coverage is 2.33 percent, but that denominator is "unlocked supply," not circulating supply. Unlocked supply counts only tokens already released under the vesting schedule, excluding future cliffs still locked in contracts. Circulating supply includes tokens sitting in treasuries or foundation wallets that technically trade but rarely move.

Either way, 2.33 percent is a fifth of deBridge's 10.4 percent addition. The Strategic Reserve designation suggests the tokens stay off exchanges initially, further reducing immediate supply pressure.

Absolute size and relative impact move in opposite directions

deBridge operates a cross-chain liquidity protocol. It routes transfers between blockchains without wrapping assets into synthetic tokens. The protocol launched in October 2024, and this marks the eighth scheduled release counting the initial distribution.

The deBridge Foundation directs 100 percent of protocol earnings to public-market DBR buybacks, a policy active since mid-2025. That creates a recurring bid tied to bridge volume and fee revenue. Whether the buyback absorbs a release this size depends on current usage. If bridge activity stays flat, the unlock overwhelms the offset.

Altcoin liquidity continues to erode across the market. Tokens outside the top twenty by market cap see thinner order books and wider spreads than a year ago. A 10 percent supply addition landing into that environment has more immediate price effect than a 2 percent addition into a liquid, high-volume market.

Other unlocks this week include Arbitrum and Starknet

Arbitrum releases 92.65 million ARB on October 16, worth $18.4 million at current prices, equal to 1.56 percent of released supply. The allocation splits between team, advisors, and investors, with 56.13 million going to insiders and 36.52 million to investors.

Starknet unlocks 127 million STRK on October 15, worth $15.42 million, or 3.37 percent of released supply. Early contributors receive 66.61 million tokens, and investors receive 60.39 million.

Total scheduled cliff unlocks for the October 12-18 window reach approximately $155 million across all projects. Hyperliquid routed its September unlock to a single wallet, and other projects follow different distribution patterns. Connex and Aerodrome Finance also release tokens this week, though neither reports figures publicly ahead of the event.
