Schwab Crypto Reaches 39.9 Million Accounts. It Left Out the #5 Coin.

Schwab will route Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink trades to 39.9 million accounts. XRP, the fifth-largest crypto at $85 billion, did not make the list.

Schwab crypto is about to get bigger, and the list of what made it in says more than the announcement does. The $13 trillion broker will add trading for Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink across its 39.9 million brokerage accounts in the coming months. XRP, the fifth-largest cryptocurrency, was not on the list.

That is the part worth sitting with. Schwab runs one of the widest retail distribution networks in American finance, and it just picked three tokens to widen the Schwab crypto shelf. It skipped the one carrying an $85 billion market cap.

What Schwab actually said

The firm confirmed the three additions on August 27. No launch date came with them, only "in the coming months." Bitcoin and Ether have traded on the Schwab crypto platform since May, so the SOL, AVAX and LINK rollout extends a business that is barely three months old.

Two numbers set the scale. Schwab held $13.04 trillion in total client assets as of July 31, and it counts 39.9 million active brokerage accounts. New tokens carry a 0.75% per-trade commission. The firm is not buying any of these coins for its own book. This is distribution, not a treasury bet. Schwab routes the order and the client holds the asset.

The coin Schwab left off

XRP ranks fifth by market value, near $85 billion, and trades around $1.35. It sits above every token Schwab chose to add. Robinhood has spent the past year pushing crypto and AI tools to its 27 million users, and Schwab is now reaching for the same retail wallet with a very different roster.

So why SOL, AVAX and LINK, and not XRP? Schwab has not said. Solana is the largest of the three and the obvious anchor pick. Avalanche, which has been clearing 3.5 million daily transactions, and Chainlink are mid-cap infrastructure names, not the tickers a mass-market broker usually leads with.

Traders who wanted XRP through a mainstream brokerage keep waiting. The token broke past $1.35 on strong volume not long ago, and its holders have watched treasury vehicles and ETF filings line up around it all year, even as crypto ETF inflows kept climbing. A 39.9 million-account distribution deal is exactly the kind of access that base has been asking for, and it went to three other coins first.

The next marker is the rollout itself. "Coming months" is not a date, and Schwab added Bitcoin and Ether only in May. Whether XRP joins a second wave or stays off the platform is the thing to watch once SOL, AVAX and LINK go live.
