The Linea unlock on September 10 released 960.13 million tokens, and the figure most unlock trackers led with was the dollar value. About 2.75 million dollars. For a token that already carries a market cap near 65 million dollars, that reads like a rounding error, and several roundups filed it exactly that way.
The dollar number hides the token count. LINEA trades at 0.002664 dollars, so a release worth 2.75 million dollars still drops 960 million units onto the ledger. In dollars it barely registers. In tokens it is close to 4 percent of the 24.5 billion already in circulation, added in a single day.
Where the 960 million went
None of it reached public holders. The tranche split evenly into two lines the project controls: 480.07 million to the Linea Consortium under long-term alignment, and another 480.07 million to the consortium's Ignition program. Both are insider-side entries on the token sheet, not coins handed to the people trading LINEA on the open market. The release everyone charted this week was the consortium topping up its own allocations.
What has not moved matters more. Only 24.5 billion of a roughly 72 billion genesis supply is circulating, about 34 percent. The other 47.5 billion, near 66 percent of the total, stays locked on a schedule that runs into the 2030s. This month's release is one small step down a long staircase, and almost every step lands in the same set of wallets.
The tokenomics say 85 percent goes to the network
Linea's published breakdown frames the split cleanly: 85 percent to network programs and early contributors, 15 percent to a Consensys treasury that is locked and non-transferable for five years, and no allocation to private investors, insiders, or team. Pull the holder table from a tracking site and the same supply reads differently.
| Allocation | Share of total supply |
|---|---|
| Linea Consortium, long-term alignment | 50% |
| Consensys treasury (locked five years) | 15% |
| Early users, builders, and LPs | 14% |
| Linea Consortium, Ignition | 12% |
| Future airdrop | 5% |
| Linea Consortium, Ignition liquidity | 4% |
Tokenomist logs 66 percent under consortium lines and 15 percent with Consensys, the firm behind MetaMask. That is roughly four tokens in five sitting with the network's own entities, a picture Coinliva drew when it showed that most of Linea's supply sits with Consensys and its consortium. The gap here comes down to labeling, not misconduct. Network and consortium-controlled describe the same coins, and a release routing straight into consortium buckets shows which label the flows actually follow.
Price against the overhang
LINEA's fully diluted valuation sits near 190 million dollars against a market cap of 65 million, so close to two-thirds of the eventual value has yet to reach the market. Daily volume runs around 7 million dollars. For a layer-2 network that launched with one of the year's larger airdrops, the token now clears less in a day than a single mid-size unlock moves in an afternoon.
More releases run through the rest of 2026 on the same monthly cadence, each one a scheduled vesting step that is light in dollars and heavy in tokens. Watch the count rather than the headline value. At 0.002664 dollars, the dollar figure keeps every unlock looking harmless while 47.5 billion tokens wait behind the 24.5 billion already trading.
